John Davis, Physics Helen Diggs, Office of Laboratory Animal Care Kathy Durkin, College of Chemisry Joyce Freedman, Special Projects Office Mark Freiberg, Environment Health & Safety Laurie Goldman, Vice Chancellor-Research Karin Hansen, Molecular and Cell Biology Helen Kelly, University Health Services Ferenc Kovac, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Silvester McBride, Physical Plant-Campus Services Scott Shackleton, Richmond Field Station James Siegrist, Physics Richard Van Sluyters, School of Optometry Representative from Space Sciences Laboratory Provide departments with detailed information on (1) which of their research equipment are likely to have Year 2000 compliance problems due to embedded systems with date functions, and the possible impact of those problems if the equipment is not fixed; (2) how to identify such research equipment; (3) sources of information, from vendors or other organizations, as to whether the equipment is compliant and exactly what problems it is likely to have, as well as what remedial actions are needed; (4) how to research the problem if information is not readily available; and (5) how to test such equipment, and possible problems that testing might cause. Recommend to the Steering Committee any measures considered appropriate in the areas of (1) central assistance to departments to help identify problems other than information from the subcommittee; (2) central funding measures to assist departments in fixing or replacing non-compliant research equipment; (3) optional or mandatory reporting, by equipment item or for departments as a whole, on the status of testing and corrective measures for research equipment.
