Office 97 applications (Word 97, Excel 97, Access 97, PowerPoint 97, and Outlook 97) are NOT Year 2000 compliant UNLESS they have been updated first to Service Release 1 (SR-1) and then to Service Release 2 (SR-2). Here is a four step procedure to make sure these applications are Y2K compliant:
1. Close/exit all open Office 97 applications, including Outlook.
2. Find out whether Office 97 has been updated to SR-2:
a. Download Office 97 Version Checker
from
http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/Articles/sr2fact.htm(and note where you're saving it to).
(Download time is less than a minute by modem.)b. Run Office 97 Version Checker from where you downloaded it to. That will tell you if you have only SR-1 installed (in which case you should go to step 4), or both SR-1 and SR-2 installed (in which case you're done), or neither (in which case you should continue with step 3).
3. If Office 97 has not been updated to either Service Release, first install SR-1.
a. Download SR-1
(and note where you're saving it to). SR-1 is found at:
http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/Articles/sr1howtoget.htm
(This download will take about 30 minutes with a 56kbs modem.)b. Run SR-1 [with some browsers, this may happen automatically]
c. Run Office 97 Version Checker to confirm that SR-1 installed correctly.
4. After Office 97 has been updated to SR-1, install SR-2.
a. Download SR-2
(and note where you're saving it to). SR-2 is found at:
http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/Articles/sr2fact.htm
(This download will take more than an hour with a 56kbs modem.)b. Run SR-2 [with some browsers, this may happen automatically]
c: Run Office 97 Version Checker to confirm that SR-2 installed correctly.
Congratulations! You're done.
