Note: customized applications are those where a department hired or used a vendor, contractor, or consultant to create the software or heavily customize it, or had in-house staff develop or customize the system.

Provide departments with detailed information on (1) how to test customized applications for Year 2000 compliance; (2) tools (commercial and free) that are available to do help with such testing; (3) alternative approaches for fixing such applications. Recommend to the Steering Committee any measures considered appropriate in the areas of (1) purchasing testing and/or repair tools centrally (IST) (2) central funding measures to assist departments in fixing or replacing non-compliant applications; and (3) optional or mandatory reporting, by individual application or for departments as a whole, on the status of testing and corrective measures for major applications in departments.
