Departmental Letter
February 12, 1999
Department Name Re: Property Address/Y2K Ð The Year 2000 Problem Dear Department Manager: The campus has created a Year 2000 (Y2K) Steering Committee which is charged with planning for Year 2000 readiness. As part of that effort, the Y2K Lease Subcommittee has written to all of our landlords to request written confirmation that they are doing everything necessary to ensure that building systems will be operational on the opening of business on Monday, January 3, 2000. Attached is a letter (landltr.doc) we are sending to your landlord to alert him/her to potential problems that could occur because of the embedded systems in some building systems and their inability to recognize the year 2000. We are also asking each UC tenant department to identify someone physically located at the above building who can work with the landlord to resolve issues and report any problems. If you have a University installed card key access system, you (and not the landlord) will need to determine if it is Year 2000 compliant. Information to assist you in this effort will be posted on the Year 2000 webpage (link to top page of Building Alarms & Access Controls section or web site) that will be available in early March, by the Departmental Building Alarms & Access Controls Subcommittee.(link) If you have any questions or specific concerns about your building, please call me at 3-2066 or e-mail me at hlevay@uclink4.berkeley.edu. You can also note your concerns on the bottom of this memo. Please return the copy of this memo to me with the contact person information at 6701 San Pablo Avenue, M/C 5600 no later than March 1, 1999. Thank you for your help assuring that your building will be fully operational on January 3, 2000.
