|
The issue More than forty UC Berkeley departments have approximately sixty leases in thirty different buildings totaling over 330,000 square feet. The largest single tenant is UC Extension, occupying about 180,000 square feet at ten separate locations throughout the Bay Area. UC Berkeley considers Year 2000 compliance for building systems in leased buildings to be implicit in the leases. Failure of building systems to operate as expected could result in the inability to occupy a building, or to discomfort, inefficiencies, and/or additional expenses in using the building.
Actions being taken A letter, including a checklist, was sent to all landlords, asking that they confirm in writing that building systems will not have Year 2000 problems. Based on the confirmations, none of the landlords expects any Y2K problems. A letter was also sent to all departments in leased buildings, asking that they identify someone physically located at each building who can work with the landlord to resolve issues and report any problems. In response, departments in leased buildings have identified someone physically located at each building who can work with the landlord to resolve issues and report any problems.
