Rollover Planning

UPS systems and surge protectors.

Protecting computers and other electrical equipment with UPS systems or surge protectors is a good idea even if there were no Y2K problem. But the rollover from December 31, 1999, to January 1, 2000, may cause problems with electrical power on campus. If it does, having an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system can protect computer systems and other equipment from software and hardware problems due to an abrupt shutdown. Having only a surge protector will not prevent software problems, such as a corrupted database, but it will prevent electrical damage from any sudden power surges or spikes.

Detailed information on UPS systems can be found here.
